well

Reallt tired and desirous to meet the boy. Had two great days, one day of fun with the kids. Got our bags, watched 15, Park Avenue, My Brother Nikhil, met cousin and cousin's wife, and was rather surpised at how happy they seemed. They are really newly married, y'know. It's not mundane. And reality struck home with Park Avenue, and Nikhil was baba all over again. I wanted to tell the boy everything, did too. And I wonder about what O calls post-adolescence. What is it all now? It is rather very different from college, and there seems to be nothing to loving but love, quite unreasonably. Endless pleasure, and happiness, for no reason, apparently, save a person. Well, I forgot what I began with, so..

hee hee -- yes, told her so, too. but what she means is that there r certain moments in it that are almost distressingly insightful. very brief moments, those, i wd say, but there they r. and given those, well, although the film isn't any great shakes at all, it does make/wake strange memories, and one is almost grateful for those.

@ Olidhar - as far as I know, Sen made 36 CL completely under the mentorship of Ray. The brilliance could thus follow only.

But 15 PA is really a meek attempt at an intrigue which falls flat on its face before going anywhere. The ending was the worst. And of the brief instances that you talk about, come on, if the theme is schizophrenia, it's imperative that certain chords will hit somewhere.

But whenever I think of Aparna Sen and 15 CL, I can only shake my head and walk away. Maaney that movie is just too good. Too effing good.

I haven't seen 36, Chowringee Lane. The boy knows about the blog. AND I never said I liked 15, Park Avenue. But nice to find it occasioning conversation, anyway.
and @rim, you are isc 1999 only?, and i thought you must be a bit more wizened.

@rim: agreed abt the mentorship. and abt the film -- ogawd, if THAT is an intrigue, i haven't ever before seen an intrigue!
but i assure u u can't simply talk good film criticism to someone who has strange memories.
i wd like to make it quite clear, though, that i am not defending the film in any way. as a complete experience, i have seldom seen anything with so many aspirations, and yet so lame.

@rom: it did too sound like u said u liked park avenue.

r s oirakom only shunle dheye ashbe, i tell u.

@oli ota to ichhe korei likhlam.
ar i don't feel as strongly against it as yall do. it can't meet up to its aspirations, that's but so obvious, but so was mr and mrs iyer lame. what of it? my brother nikhil, on the other hand, i liked quite emphatically, well, as much as i saw. and it might also be some of the boy rubbing on to me, the unwillingness to discuss flaws, and it does not incense me exactly, the way, say, One Night at the Call Centre does, or The Inscrutable Americans.
